[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure="3_4,1_4" admin_label="podcast" module_class="podcast" _builder_version="4.25.1" custom_margin="-1px|auto||auto|false|false" custom_padding="0px||0px||false|false" animation_direction="right" global_colors_info="{}"][et_pb_column type="3_4" _builder_version="4.16" custom_padding="|||" global_colors_info="{}" custom_padding__hover="|||"][et_pb_text disabled_on="off|off|off" admin_label="Kletsheads" module_id="Kletsheads" module_class="article sidebar-under" _builder_version="4.25.1" header_3_font_size="24px" locked="off" global_colors_info="{}"]

Kletsheads, de podcast over tweetalige kinderen

Podcast

Overzicht

Kletsheads is een podcast voor ouders, leerkrachten en logopedisten. The book focuses on learning and maintaining Latvian as a heritage language in multilingual families outside Latvia and is the first on this topic published by a Latvian author in Latvia. It is aimed at Latvian parents worldwide, as well as language teachers and students in Latvia. The author has documented the language development of her trilingual children for ten years. Therefore, the scientific insights on early bilingualism, which had not been extensively described in Latvian before, are richly supplemented with examples from her children's language use in everyday communication. The book also includes observations from other Latvian parents living in different countries, focusing on both the development of the Latvian language in their children and their personal feelings about language-related topics. It offers suggestions for parents on supporting their child's acquisition of the Latvian language and maintaining their own motivation: the Latvian parent is often the only person the child hears speaking Latvian on a daily basis. Dr. Sindi also demonstrates that maintaining a heritage language can be a creative and inspiring process, bringing joy and satisfaction to parents and children alike. The third part of the book includes four interviews on the topics of bilingualism and Latvian as a heritage language. In one of these, Dr. Sindi speaks with HaBilNet director Dr. Annick De Houwer. It reaches out to Latvian families around the world to help maintain their heritage language in the diaspora. At the same time, scholars have emphasized the cognitive benefits that bilingualism may confer on children. Parents may feel torn between these opposite perspectives and may not know whether to raise their children bilingually, and, if so, how to do it best.
On Oct. 16, 2023, HaBilNet Director Annick De Houwer was invited by University College London's Institute of Education to kick off the new academic year's Seminar Series on Multilingualism and Diversity: Impact on Education, Health and Society with an online talk addressing how parents can support Harmonious Bilingualism for their children and themselves. Although there are things that parents in a bilingual setting cannot control, there are many things that they can. These include parents' own positive attitudes towards child bilingualism and the languages involved, parents' willingness to invest in their children's linguistic development more than might need to be the case in monolingual settings, and parents' willingness to engage with outsiders who may threaten their family's Harmonious Bilingualism. Almost 2,000 storybooks in 221 languages from A for Acholi to Z for Zarma have been developed and published since the start of the project in 2014. Readers can choose a language and different reading levels such as first words, first paragraphs, or longer paragraphs and download the story in different formats.

In addition to the website, two easy to use apps, the African Story Reader App and the African Story Maker App are available for free. This way, children and their families need neither a computer nor computer skills to read, translate, or create a new picture storybook. Also, the apps allow for offline use of the storybooks.

Videos and written guides provide step by step instructions on the use of the resources. Additionally, in depth guides provide detailed information on topics like how to translate a storybook professionally or how to create a storybook with children.

ASb says: "Writing a story and developing a storybook are rewarding processes involving a range of activities and competencies that can be used for language and literacy teaching. The process of storybook creation is also a way for children to reflect on their life experiences and to make meaning of those experiences."

The whole project is run by Saide, a registered Non-Profit Organisation governed by a Trust and based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text disabled_on="off|off|off" admin_label="Buecherpiraten" module_id="Buecherpiraten" module_class="article sidebar-under" _builder_version="4.20.2" header_3_font_size="24px" hover_enabled="0" locked="off" global_colors_info="{}" sticky_enabled="0"]

Tweetalige prentenboeken in 1001 talen?!

Boeken vindenVideo

Tweetalige prentenboeken in 1001 talen?!
